Fixing light panels/cassettes requires more preparation than one might initially think. This is because light panels/cassettes can react to temperature differences. During summer they shrink due to heat, while in winter they expand due to cold. These fluctuations make it important to take care during installation.
Important steps when fixing light panels/cassettes:
Pre-drilling the panel: Before fixing the screw into the panel, it is essential to pre-drill first. This ensures that the material does not crack or tear when the screw is screwed in. The recommendation is to pre-drill a 13 mm hole. This gives the material room to shrink and expand without damage.
- Use of sealing washers: After pre-drilling, you can fix the screw using a sealing washer. Sealing washers serve several purposes:
- Watertight connection: They ensure that the connection between the light plate/cassette and the roof is watertight, preventing leaks.Stable fastening: They provide a stable and secure fastening of the light plate/cassette to the roof, even when shrinking and expanding due to temperature fluctuations.
Always mount the screw at the top of the wave of the plate. This prevents leakage, as water usually remains in the valley. Moreover, the sealing ring fits better on the wave, whereas it may rise in the valley, causing leakage.
Following these steps will significantly reduce the chances of problems such as leaks or damage to the light plate/cassette. Thus, careful preparation and fixing of light plates/cassettes is crucial for a durable and safe installation.
